In a documentary for the world renowned BBC science series Horizon, Lawson countered the prevailing assumption that science is uncovering the truth about the universe. Titled ‘Science ..… fiction?’ the film argued that science is a narrative that has proved powerful and because it is powerful we hold it to be true. But science is not uncovering the metaphysical truth of the universe. Lawson’s account of science has parallels with Hawking’s shift to model theoretic realism put forward in 2012.
